Shading has it's uses

You may remember this little number from a previous post, tho I seem to have mislaid it.
The last time these mums made an appearance, they were bare bones outlines. Now that I have started working on washes, I decided to give the mums some TLC, and boy, did they respond.
It's still just a stodgy old picture of mums that will never be contemporary, but they're still a lot nicer now ;)

Chrysanthemums are such an interesting flower to paint. They have a Taoist use/symbolism (mildly narcotic tea) and are frequent subjects in Chinese art.

I have a lovely triptych showing Chrysanthemums as they bloom and fade. It is one of my favorite pieces.

Your picture is lovely! I think beauty is very contemporary, as is meditating on the importance of now and the impermanence of life.

I think it's a lovely little rendering.
